1.2 A Fourth Life? – The Comic

After the second display of the textile replicas at the Museum of World Culture for GIBCA 2021, I presented the manuscript A Fourth Life? at my 80% PhD progression seminar. This manuscript extended my narrative about the Paracas textile collection from its discovery to my involvement. However, the final chapter was unresolved, and I decided to strategically lean into the collaborative methodology central to my PhD. I invited renowned Peruvian political cartoonist Jesús Cossio not just to adapt my writing but to immerse himself in it, selecting the elements he found most compelling to shape into a comic. The manuscript contained numerous potential narratives, and I gave Jesús full freedom to choose how to tell the story. The result is the unique narrative you see in the comic, shaped entirely by his interpretation of the text and giving him full creative control over the illustrations. Together, we developed a script based on his initial structure.
